FROM ATHLETE TO FOUNDER
Here is a little bit about my story.
How it all started...

Hi there! My name is Gabrielle Ewing & I am the creator & founder of The Athlete Confidential.

I've been playing sports as long as I can remember. Pretty sure I could dribble a ball before I could walk. At some point soccer was the sport that stuck. I played collegiate soccer from 2015-2018 & in 2019 I signed my first professional contract to play soccer overseas. It was everything I had worked for my entire athletic career.
& in 2020 that all came to a devastating & unexpected halt. The combination of a major ankle injury & a global pandemic led me to hang up my boots and walk away from the one thing I loved most, soccer. It was all I knew, it was my entire identity. I had no idea who I was without it. My mental health hit an alarming low. After a major identity crisis, crippling anxiety & bouts of depression I eventually came out on the other side, but it wasn't easy.

During my time away from soccer I felt alone, unseen & lost. But the truth is, hundreds of athletes face these challenges on a regular basis. However, it feels like no one is talking about it. Not as much as we should anyway & it rarely comes from the people we need to hear it from most. So, I decided I needed to tell my story because these are conversations that need to be had.

Thus, The Athlete Confidential was born. A platform where I and other athlete's can tell their story so that we all feel seen & heard because we are not alone.
“It’s OK not to be OK. To show weakness, we’re told in sports, is to deserve shame. But showing weakness, addressing your mental health, is strength.”
— Mardy Fish, Professional Tennis Player
